Mrs. Ernestine Blackburn Chappell

Mrs. Ernestine Blackburn Chappell age 101 of Mt. Airy passed away Friday November 13, 2015 at the Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mrs. Chappell was born August 1, 1914 in Carroll County, VA. to the late Roy S. and Inez Towe Blackburn. Mrs. Chappell was owner and operator of Chappell’s Day Care and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law Jean and Carlos Oliveros of Walkertown and Kaye and Roger Puckett of Mt. Airy, one son and daughter-in-law Thurston and Sherry Chappell of N. Myrtle Beach, SC, grandchildren Nancy Kissinger, Olinda and Allen Branch, Shanda Chappell, Bradley Chappell, Derrick and Sherri Puckett and Kristi and Jerry Coram, Jr, seventeen great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, one sister Janice Newman, one brother Donald Blackburn of Charlotte and by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents Mrs. Chappell was preceded in death by her husband Thomas L. Chappell, one sister Willie Sue Shelton and by three brothers Garnett, Guy and Glen Blackburn. Funeral services will be held Wednesday November 18, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at the Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy with services conducted by Rev. Alex Martin with burial to follow in the Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12:30 PM until time for the funeral at Moody Funeral home in Mt. Airy. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 314 S. Franklin Rd. Mt. Airy, NC. 27030 or to the Northern Hospital Skilled Care Unit, 830 Rockford St. Mt. Airy, NC. 27030.
