Mrs. Eva Emmer Shelton Hylton

Mrs. Eva Emmer Shelton Hylton, 85, of Mt. Airy passed away Monday, April 16, 2018, at Surry Community Health and Rehab. She was born in Surry County on February 18, 1933, to the late James C. and Hallie Hicks Shelton. Mrs. Hylton was retired from Russell Corporation, and a member of Blue Hollow Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Avery Hylton of the home; daughters and son-in-law, Norma Lawson, Kay “Susie” and Teddy Mears all of Mt. Airy; grandchildren and spouses, Terri and Clyde Bowman, Jr., Lindsay Williamson, Elizabeth and Stephen Otto; twelve great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hylton was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Terry Hylton; a son-in-law, Wayne Lawson; a grandson, Teddy Mears, Jr., a great grandchild, Michael Shaun Calhoun; sisters, Estelle Slate, Brownie Nester, Lucille Gillespie, Vestie Fleming, and Barbara Anderson; brothers, Sammy Shelton, James Shelton, Jr., Vaxter Shelton, and Orange Shelton. A graveside service will be held Thursday, April 19, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Skyline Memory Gardens with the Rev. Rickey Martin officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday from 12:30 until 1:30 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 410 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
