Mrs. Frances Swiney Spangler

Frances Swiney Spangler, age 82, passed away February 10, 2015 at her home in Vesta, VA. She formerly resided in Ruckersville, VA.

She was born March 17, 1932 in Fieldale, VA and was the daughter of the late Jesse Lee and Vertie Rozinna Cruise Swiney. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Marvin Swiney and Jesse Wayne Swiney.
Frances was a graduate of Meadows of Dan High School and Danville Technical Institute (division of VPI&SU). She had been a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church in Ruckersville, VA since 1968 where she was co-founder of the church library and nursery. Frances was an accomplished artist who studied with the North Light Art School earning her certificate of achievement in the fine art of painting and drawing. She was a homemaker, an avid gardener and a member of various Garden Clubs. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, quilling and was an expertly skilled seamstress.
She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Harvie Langhorne Spangler; her four children, Belinda Eddins of Ruckersville, VA, Debra Shelor and husband Robert of Meadows of Dan, VA, David Langhorne Spangler of Goode, VA, and Beverly Fariss and her husband William of North Garden, VA; seven grandchildren, Waverly Eddins, Sarah Eddins, Paul Shelor, Aaron Shelor, Wesley Langhorne Spangler, Paige Spangler, and Leslie Johnson; and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters, Virginia Pauline Ney of Longboat Key, FL, Brenda Carol Hoskins of Luray, VA, Barbara Laverne Terry and her husband, Steven of Meadows of Dan, VA; and two brothers, Rueben Roger Swiney and his wife, Margaret of Meadows of Dan, VA and Jackie Lee Swiney and his wife, Myrna of Taylorsville, NC; one brother-in-law, Dr. Daniel Patrick Spangler and his wife, Dorothy of Gainesville, FL; and two sisters-in-law, Thelma Handy Spangler of Ohio and Bettie Smith Spangler of San Diego, CA.
The funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 13, 2015 at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart, VA with Pastor Stuart Childress officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. prior to funeral at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Spangler Family Cemetery in Meadows of Dan, VA.
