Mrs. Frankie Irene McMillian

Mrs. Frankie Irene Hawks McMillian, 88, of Cana, VA, passed away Monday, December 16, 2013, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mrs. McMillian was born January 15, 1925, the daughter of the late Fielden Isaac and Bessie King Hawks. She retired from Spencer's Inc. after 35 years of service and was a long time devoted member of Flat Ridge Baptist Church. She is survived by three loving daughters and two sons-in-law, Carolyn and Larry Jones and Deborah Easter, all of Cana, VA, and Sandra and James Clement of Ararat, VA; three wonderful grandchildren and their spouses, DeAnna and Steven Christin, Jarret Clement, and Brandon and Anna Jones; a precious great grandson, Caleb Jones of Cana; one sister, Beulah McMillian of Cana, VA; and a brother and two sisters-in-law, Thomas Ray and Carol Hawks and Ruby Hawks, all of Cana, VA; several special nieces and nephews; a special friend, Freta Deatherage of Cana, and all of her many breakfast friends she ate with at the Hungry Farmer Restaurant. In addition to her parents, Mrs. McMillian was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Wilson McMillian; and a brother Rush Edwin Hawks. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at 2:00 PM at Flat Ridge Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dennis Bledsoe officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy where Mrs. McMillian will remain until the time to be taken to the church to lie in state for 30 minutes prior to the service.
