Mrs. Gertrude Rena Gammons Marion, age 80, of Mount Airy passed away peacefully on Monday, April 13, 2015 at Central Continuing Care. She was born in Surry County on December 1, 1934, one of eleven children born to the late Reid and Essie Ada Reynolds Gammons. Mrs. Marion was a homemaker who dedicated her life to serving God and her family. She was a dedicated member of Turkey Ford Baptist Church as long as her health permitted. Along with quilting and sewing, gardening, cooking and feeding everybody she knew was a special part of her life. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Wanda Marion and her son and daughter-in-law Richard and Brenda Marion, all of Mount Airy; two beloved grandchildren, Candice Marion of Mount Airy and Kelly and her husband Tobey Mitchell of Dobson; a great-grandson, Liam Westley Mitchell; four sisters, Viola Hiatt of Mount Airy, Iola Inman of Westfield, Geraldine Vaughn of Mount Airy an d Carolyn and husband Clarence Campbell of Mount Airy; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Clyde Gammons of Mount Airy, Zoy and Maxie Gammons of Pilot Mountain, Clinard and Virginia Gammons of Westfield, Leonard and Laverne Gammons of Westfield and Joanne Gammons of Mount Airy; numerous nieces, nephews and special friends. In addition to her parents, her beloved husband, Arlys Calvin Marion and two brothers, James Garrell and John Almer Gammons preceded her in death. Her funeral service will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at Turkey Ford Baptist Church by the Rev. Keith Love, The Rev. Kermit Grey, and the Rev. Steven Corn. Burial will follow in Piney Grove Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6 to 8 at Turkey Ford Baptist Church where her body will remain until the hour of the service, and other times at her home1063 Turner Mountain Road.
