Mrs. Grace Frances Callahan White, age 99, of Elkin entered the Portals of Heaven on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born in Surry County on August 7, 1914 to the late Thomas Jefferson and Stella Williams Callahan. Mrs. White was a devoted housewife and a faithful member of Salem Fork Baptist Church as long as her health permitted. She was married in 1935 to her dear husband, Paul White. Mrs. White lived in the Salem Fork community all of her life and loved gardening and canning. She loved all of her children unconditionally and also had a deep love for her church family. She worked at Perry Manufacturing, Dobson Elementary School cafeteria, Surry Nursing Home of Dobson and farmed in her early years. Those left to cherish her memory are her loving children Carolyn Money and husband Linville of Ronda, Josephine Hardy and husband Terry of Dobson, Rebecca Carter and husband Ronald of Dobson, Herchel White and wife Marie of Clio, Michigan, C.L. White and wife Helen of Elkin and Arnold Lee White also of Elkin; twenty one grandchildren; twenty six great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Marie Butner of Tobaccoville and Gertrude Wall of Pinnacle. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband in 1971; a daughter, Mary Sue White; a son Benton White; three brothers, Junior Callahan and Dee Callahan and Raymond Callahan; and five sisters, Ola Brindle, Maggie Slate, Bertha White, Opal Ward and Thelma Cook. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Monday, January 27, 2014 at Salem Fork Baptist Church by the Rev. Dan Merritt, the Rev. Van Brindle and the Rev. Tim Burton with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Moody-Davis Funeral Home of Dobson on Sunday from 6 to 8 pm where her body will remain until time to be carried to the church to lie-in-state thirty minutes prior to the funeral service. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Salem Fork Baptist Church, 555 Twin Oaks Road Elkin, NC 28621. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to her caregivers, Home Instead Health Care and the entire staff of the 7th and 8th floor at Forsyth Hospital for the loving care they gave our mother.
