Mrs. Hazel White Simmons

Mrs. Hazel White Simmons passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2015. Born April 17, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Bishop White and Virginia Jones White Carlan. She was the loving wife of the late Robert "Bobby" Simmons. She is survived by their daughter, Pam Burcham and husband Joe Burcham of Concord, North Carolina; granddaughter Andrea Jones and husband Greg Jones of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; her precious great-grandchildren Austin and Addison; four brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Conrad "Buddy" Simmons, Stanton Simmons, David and Mary Simmons and Mary Lynn and Dale Myers. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and her special cat "Frank," all of whom she loved so much. Her sister, Stella White Scott Coggins, preceded her in death. Mrs. Simmons treasured the position she held for most of her career working as a switchboard operator at Northern Hospital. She made many friends and was a friendly familiar face to all entering and leaving the hospital. In recent years, she rediscovered her love of dancing and could be seen many Friday nights dancing and enjoying her favorite band, Classic Country. She was a long-time active member of Salem United Methodist Church. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, February 28 at Salem United Methodist Church by Rev. Dennis "Bud" Cameron. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Salem United Methodist Church, 2591 Wards Gap Rd., Mount Airy, NC 27030.
