Mrs. Hazel Irene Hawks York

Mrs. Hazel Irene Hawks York, age 81 of Mt. Airy, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2014 at her home. Mrs. York was born in Surry County on February 14, 1933 to Richard and Stella Galyean Hawks. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend to so many. Mrs. York was of the Baptist faith. She will be dearly missed by all her devoted family and friends. Surviving are a son Charles L. York, Jr. of Lambsburg; daughters and a son-in-law, Ramona Lynn York and husband Jack Ball of Lowgap; Judy Kay York; Jenny Fay York and Janice May York all of the home; grandchildren, Ida Belle Jones and husband Ryan and Jason Lee McBride; great grandson, Glendon Lacy Jones; and brothers, Mitchell Hawks of Lowgap and Russell Hawks of Mt. Airy and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. York was preceded in death by her husband C. L. York, a granddaughter, Christy Lynn York, sisters, Alice Hodges, Elsie Bryant, Mary Lou Moore, Maude Thompkins and Lela Morris and by brothers, Swanson Hawks, Raleigh Hawks and Claude Hawks. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, July 13, 2014 at Blue Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery by Rev. Arlis Thomas. The family will receive friends Saturday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at Moody Funeral Home.
