Mrs. Hester Lorraine Thompson Greenwood

Mrs. Hester Lorraine Thompson Greenwood, age 90 of Mt. Airy, went home to be with the Lord on April 13, 2015. Mrs. Greenwood was born in Surry County on May 27, 1924 to Lonnie and Minnie Doby Thompson. She was a devoted Christian "a true prayer warrior", and loving mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed by all her family and friends. She loved working within God's beautiful nature in her garden and flowers. Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda France; Betty and James McHone, Sr. and Pam and Billy Alderman; grandchildren, Ricky France, Vincent France, Lisa Creed, Kimberly Beasley, James McHone, Jr. and Christie Jones; nine great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Greenwood was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Greenwood; a sister, Alice Mae Harold and brothers, Willie, Edgar, Elwood and infant Larry Allen Thompson. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, April 16, 2015 at Antioch Baptist Church by Rev. Dale Wallace and Rev. Rusty Reed. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday at the church beginning at 9:00 AM. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Balaji and his wonderful staff and the Woltz Hospice Home for the wonderful care and compassion given to Mrs. Greenwood.
