Mrs. Irene Rebecca D. Thompson

Mrs. Irene Rebecca Duncan Thompson, age 73 of Mt. Airy, "Our sweet mama has gone to be with the Lord." God called her home on Wednesday, March 26, 2014. Mrs. Thompson was born in Surry County on October 29, 1940 to Simon Louis and Gertie Wood Duncan. She was such a loving, kind and giving person. All who knew her loved her and she knew no strangers. She will be dearly missed by all her family and many friends. Mrs. Thompson retired from Proctor-Silex after forty three years of service and then worked at Kentucky Derby for another twelve years. She was of the Baptist faith. Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia Thompson and Frank Jessup; Debbie and Greg Hodges a son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Sheryll Thompson; grandchildren, Trevor Thompson and Bret Hodges; step granddaughter, Cindel Hodges; step great grandchildren, Gracie Waid and Elizabeth McBride; and a sister, Mary Lou Marion. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by her husband, Coy Thompson; an infant son, Roy Thompson; a grandson, Anthony Thompson; sisters, Helen Thomas and Pauline Wright and brothers, Jack Duncan and Louis Duncan. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, March 28, 2014 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Don Collins and Rev. Dennis Bledsoe. Burial will follow in Pilot Mountain City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at the funeral home. The family would like to thank all the friends and family for the love, support and prayers during this difficult time, and would like to express deep gratitude to the Woltz Hospice Home for the exceptional care given to Mrs. Thompson.
