Mrs. Jessie Elizabeth Willis Welborn

Mrs. Jessie Elizabeth Willis Welborn, 90 of Mt. Airy passed away Monday, May 25, 2015 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. She was born May 12, 1925 in Patrick County, VA to the late William Walter and Mary Evelyn Willis. Mrs. Welborn retired from Spencer's after 46 years and was a devoted member of Flat Rock Presbyterian Church where she had served as a Sunday School Teacher and deacon. Mrs. Welborn was compassionate for others, especially those that were less fortunate. She enjoyed the time she gave as a volunteer with Yolkefellow ministries. She is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law Gail and Donny Cox of Mt. Airy; two grandsons, Joseph Cox of Chicago and Michael Cox and wife, Meg of Concord; two great granddaughters, Elizabeth and Sophia; a sister-in-law, Mary Willis of Mt. Airy; two special nieces, Cleo Hiatt and Gloria Hawks; two nephews, Ralph Hiatt and Bill Willis. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Welborn was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Conway Welborn; sister, Alpha Hiatt and brothers, Luther, Corba, Curits, J.C., Kyle and Hoke Willis. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Wilborn Rives officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested for memorials to be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
