Mrs. Juanita Combs Hawks, 76 of Cana, VA passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, October 18, 2014. She was born in Carroll County, VA to the late William Raleigh and Annie Mae Edwards Combs. Mrs. Hawks was known for her kindness and compassion. She retired as cafeteria manager from St. Paul School, making sure all the children were fed and cared for, as if they were her own. She was a faithful member of Paul's Creek Baptist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir and encouraged her family's musical talents. Recently, she was recognized as one of the oldest surviving members of the church. She devoted her life to caring for her family, teaching them strong values, seemed effortless for her. Mrs. Hawks is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Glenda and Joey Marion of Mt. Airy, Sandy and Mike McMillian of Cana, VA, Jeanie and Buddy Puckett of Ararat, VA and Christy and Chris Handy of Mt. Airy; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Hope Hawks of Cana and Joey and Robin Hawks Hawks of Ararat, VA; grandchildren and spouses, Joey Marion, Jr., Joshua and Elissa Marion, Jamie and Kasey Marion, Mannie Hawks, E.J. Dalton, Telia and Jesse Dalton, Zachery and Katelyn Rogers, Lakin Rogers Waycaster and Ryan, Isaiah Puckett, Jeremiah Puckett, Corey Hawks, Colter Hawks, Carrie Hawks, William Handy, Austin Handy, Trey Handy, Andrew Turney and Daniel Turney; great grandchildren, Bryson Marion, Jasmine Marion, Josiah Marion, Kustom Dalton, Lyla Dalton, Kenzley Dalton, Midori Waycaster, Olive Waycaster and Baby Dalton due in 2015; sisters and brothers-in-law, Burnette and Edward Brown, Lucy and Mike Beeson all of East Bend and Frankie and Tony D'Amico. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hawks was preceded in death by her husband, Junior Harold Hawks; a sister, Mildred Carter; two brothers, Haywood and Morgan Combs and infant twin brother and sister, Joseph and Odessa Combs. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at Paul's Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Justin McCreary officiating. Burial will follow at the Edwards Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday from 12:30 until the time of the service.
