Mrs. Karen Meyer Barnett

Mrs. Karen Meyer Barnett age 78, of Mt. Airy, NC, passed away Friday April 17, 2015 at her home. Mrs. Barnett was born in Fort Collins, CO on August 11, 1936 the daughter of the late Ed and Alice Cheatwood Meyer. Mrs. Barnett enjoyed time painting and working in her garden, and also was an accomplished organist and pianist. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mount Airy. Surviving are her husband of 62 years, Frederick Earl Barnett; daughters and son-in-law, Cheryl and George Whitley of Richmond, VA, Lise Barnett of Charlotte, and god-daughter, Toni Rembold Dooley of Greensboro, NC; her son, Cam Barnett and his fiancée' Linda Langford of Mount Airy; daughter-in-law, Sandra Barnett of Mount Airy; two grandchildren, Parke Whitley, and Casey Barnett; sister, Judy Scarborough of Medford, OR; one brother, Gene Meyer of Wickenburg, AZ. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by six brothers. A service of celebration will be held Wednesday April 22, 2015 at 3:00 pm at the Moody Funeral Chapel in Mount Airy with Rev. Griff Gatewood officiating. The Barnett family will visit with friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2:00 until the hour of the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Shepherd's House 227 Rockford St., Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody Funeral Service of Mount Airy is serving the Barnett family.
