Mrs. Kathleen "Mama Kate" Boyd Hiatt

Mrs. Kathleen (Mama Kate) Boyd Hiatt, age 89 of Cana, VA, moved into the more immediate presence of the Lord on Saturday, May 24, 2014. Mrs. Hiatt was born in Surry County on November 13, 1924 to Franklin K. and Rosa Lee Smith Boyd. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother who will be dearly missed by her family and many friends. Mrs. Hiatt was a devoted member for 89 years of Mount Bethel Moravian Church where she was also a member of Women's Fellowship for seventy years. She was a solid pillar whom everyone looked up to in the church. Surviving are sons, Freddy Hiatt (Judy) of Ararat, VA; Kenny Hiatt (Gail) of Cana; grandchildren, Fredrick Hiatt (Becky) of Media, PA, Crystal Hiatt of Winston-Salem, Kent Hiatt of Ararat, VA and Brent Hiatt of Cana; great grandchildren Trey Hiatt and Nikki Hiatt both of Winston-Salem; several nieces and nephews and special care givers, Marilyn Blanks, Helen Hiatt. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hiatt was preceded in death by her husband, Eric Douglas "Doug Pop" Hiatt and sisters, Louise Bondurant, Marie Haynes, Ruth Ayers and infant Annie Susan Boyd. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at Mount Bethel Moravian Church by Rev. Charles Fishel. Burial will follow in the church graveyard. The family will receive friends Monday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at Moody Funeral Home.
