Mrs. Lana Wood Brendle, 63, of Dobson passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center as her family gathered lovingly around her bedside. She was born in Surry County on January 18, 1950 to Henry and Bonnie Hayes Wood. Her loving and giving spirit to her Lord, her family and community will long be remembered. Mrs. Brendle was an independent contractor for the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles and a faithful member of Dobson First Baptist Church. She served on the Board of Commissioners in Dobson and was always working to improve the Dobson area and its citizens. Left to cherish her memory are her devoted children, Neil Brendle and his fiancé, Carrie Harrison and Jayme Berrier; three grandchildren, whom she cherished, Morrison Berrier, Erin and Ava Brendle; her loving parents, Henry and Bonnie Hayes Wood; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Kermit and Mary Wood of Elkin, and Terry and Becky Wood of Jonesville. Mrs. Brendle was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jay Arvil Brendle. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at Dobson First Baptist Church by Rev. Cory Honeycutt and Rev. Lanny Atkins with burial to follow in Salem Fork Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the fellowship center of Dobson First Baptist Church on Tuesday from 6 to 8 pm where her body will remain until the hour of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made, in her memory, to the Children's Center of Surry, 2000 Prison Camp Road Dobson, NC 27017. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to her many friends, co-workers and all who have been there during this difficult time.
