Mrs. Lela Betty Kidd Gibson

Mrs. Lela Betty Kidd Gibson, 87, of Mt. Airy passed away Thursday, October 9, 2014 at Central Continuing Care. She was born in Surry County on May 2, 1927 to the late Edward Allen and Mary Betty Brintle Kidd. Mrs. Gibson was a farmer, homemaker, and school bus monitor at White Plains School and was a member of Dover Baptist Church. She is survived by her; sisters-in-law, Ruth Kidd of Amelia, VA, Rhumell Venable of Hampton, VA; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gibson was preceded in death by her husband, Bernie Carl Gibson; a son, Robert Edward Gibson; sisters, Jenny Lawrence, Lillian Draughn, and Ruby Brintle; brothers, Javan, Tom, Robert, Ben, Charlie, and Ellis Kidd; her foster parents, Sara Duman and Banner Brintle; her foster sisters, Annie Mauldin, Lucy Watson, Lula Childress, and Nell Gibson. A graveside service will be held Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 2:00 PM at White Plains Friends Meeting Cemetery with the Rev. Billy Watson officiating. The family will greet friends in the church fellowship room after the graveside service. The family would like to give their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Central Continuing Care for the love and care given to Lela.
