Mrs. Lou Ella Hubbard Handy, age 79 of Woolwine, passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County. She was born in Patrick County on September 8, 1932 to the late Alvery B. and Fannie Ellen Harbour Hubbard. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Handy was preceded in death by four brothers, James, Marvin, Clyde and Ernest Hubbard. She was a longtime member of Smith River Church of the Brethren, and had retired from United Elastic Corporation with 42 years of service.
Mrs. Handy is survived by her husband of 63 years, James A. Handy of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Erman Bryant of Stuart; one son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Regena Handy of Woolwine; two grandchildren, Todd Handy and Josh Handy and wife, Stephannie; one step-grandchild, Jason Bryant and wife, Monica; one great grandchild, Riley James Handy; seven step-great-grandchildren, Kenneth, Dillon, Jessica, David, Paul, Abigail and Jake Bryant; one brother and sister-in-law, Maynard and Willa Kay Hubbard of Stuart; one sister and brother-in-law, Delora and John Barker of Martinsville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Handy will be held Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at Smith River Church of the Brethren with Pastor Danny Gilley and Pastor Dewayne Troutt officiating. Burial will follow in Woolwine Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until time of the service at the church, and at other times at the home.
