Mrs. Mabel Lowe Moxley Hawks

Mrs. Mabel Ruth Lowe Moxley Hawks, 91, of Lowgap passed away Sunday, April 24, 2016 at Central Continuing Care in Mt. Airy. She was born in Surry County on April 19, 1925 to the late John Corby and Elva Mattie Richardson Lowe. Mrs. Hawks was a retired seamstress and was of the Baptist faith. She is survived by her husband, Mitchell Hawks; a daughter and son-in-law, Geraldine O’Dell and Elmer of Mt. Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, James Moxley and Jenna of Boons Mill, VA; a step daughter and husband, Jerry Sue Haynes and Joe of Boone; five grandchildren; three step grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; sisters, Blanche Moss of East Bend, Beulah Shaw of Salisbury, Rachel Rodriguez of Stanton, KY. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hawks was preceded in death by her first husband, Charlie Grant Moxley; a son, Franklin Moxley and a daughter-in-law, Hattie Lintecum Moxley. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joe Atkins officiating. Burial will follow at Fisher Gap Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy on Wednesday, from 10:00 until the time of the service.
