Mrs. Marie Martin Turman

Mrs. Marie Martin Turman, age 87 of Meadows of Dan, passed away Monday, February 2, 2015 in Carroll County. She was born in Surry County, North Carolina on February 15, 1927. She was preceded in death by her husband, Silas Conduff Turman; a daughter, Antoinette Turman Mustard; her parents, James D. Martin and Ada Barnard Martin Shelor; and her step-father, Asa Shelor. She graduated from Meadows of Dan High School in 1944. After graduation, she left on a bus for Atlanta, Georgia to marry her fiancé, Silas, who served in the Air Force during World War II. She was active in many community organizations. She was an active member of Meadows of Dan Baptist Church and then a longtime member of Reed Island Springs Baptist Church. Most dear to her was her relationship with God through her church and telling all she met about Jesus. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and had been a homemaker and dairy farmer. She was always willing to give a listening ear, hug, and prayers for all.

Mrs. Turman is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Rev. Ted Turman and Cathy of Mount Airy, North Carolina, Duke Turman and Margaret of Blacksburg, Bill Turman and Darlene of Chilhowie; one daughter, Bonita Turman of Meadows of Dan; one son-in-law, Harry Mustard and wife, Joni of Columbia, South Carolina; one sister and brother-in-law, Opal M. Gilbert and Bill of Martinsville; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Amy (Dave), Clint (Louise), Callie (Chase), Catelin, Dylan, Sarah (Adam), Amanda (Chris), Michael (Tonya) and Matthew (Stephanie); and seven great-grandchildren, Iris, Mila, Dayna, Gavin, Thomas, Bradley and Lily.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Reed Island Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Lowell Willis and Rev. Roland McCraw officiating. Burial will follow in Bell Spur Community Cemetery with Pastor Lonnie Hylton officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the church, and at other times at the homeplace.
