Martha Brim Shockley, 92, passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at the Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Stuart, Virginia. She was born on December 7, 1921 in Patrick County, Va., to the late Robert and Anna Terry Brim. On December 23, 1939, she married the Reverend William Rogers Shockley who preceded her in death. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Tuggle and three brothers Claude, James and Moir Brim.
Martha was a longtime member of Minnies Chapel Wesleyan Church in Stuart, Va. She and her husband were very dedicated to the Wesleyan Church, in which he was a long-time pastor in Danville and other Virginia communities. In total, Reverend and Mrs. Shockley pastored 6 churches in the Wesleyan Church denomination for 39 years. The Shockley's made many friends as they traveled in the ministry. Through their generous missionary donations, the Shockley's Wesleyan Church was established on the island nation of Haiti.
Martha is survived by a sister, Charlotte Wall of Danbury, NC and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews in both the Brim and Shockley families.
Funeral services for Mrs. Shockley will be held on Sunday, June 1, 2014 at 3:00 pm at Minnies Chapel Wesleyan Church with Rev. Brian Custer, Rev. Gary Combs and Rev. Jim Churchwell officiating. Burial will immediately follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30pm until 3:00pm at the church.
Martha was a loving wife, daughter, sister, aunt and friend to many. She was a devout Christian and shared her faith with all that she met. She will be greatly missed and dearly remembered by those who knew and loved her. The family would like to thank the physicians, nursing and support staff at the Blue Ridge Nursing Center for all of their love and care during her time there.
