Mary Margaret Holyfield Bitting, 93, formerly of Dobson, passed away on February 8, 2015 at Pruitt Health Care in Elkin.
Mrs. Bitting was born on January 12, 1922 in Rutherford County North Carolina. She was the daughter of Raleigh Gilmer and Alma Burrus Holyfield and she grew up in Rockford, North Carolina. She graduated from Copeland High School in Surry County and Draughn's Business College in Forsyth County. She was employed as a secretary at RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company in Winston Salem where she met and married her husband, Joseph Bitting. After her husband's death she resided in Dobson with her mother until her mother's death. Mrs. Bitting was a member of the Dobson First Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Bitting, her brother R.G. Holyfield, and her sister Catherine White. Surviving are her brothers Ted Holyfield of Elkn, Joe Holyfield of Macon, Georgia, and her sister-in-law, Anne Holyfield of Mt. Airy. Also she is survived by nieces and nephews, Joan Dellinger of Elkin, Jack Holyfield of Elkin, Frank Holyfield of Durham, Dr. Al Holyfield of Martinsville, Virginia, Bob White of Dobson, Harry White of Winston Salem, and Pat Widdowson of Pilot Mountain.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff of Pruitt Health Care and to the Dobson Baptist Church for their kindness and compassion.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday in the Chapel of Moody-Davis Funeral Home and with Rev. Cory Honeycutt officiating and the burial will follow in the Rockford Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Rockford Cemetery Fund C/O Leslie Hutchens 4737 Rockford Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
