Mrs. Mary Helen Davis Fields Haynes, 90, of 118 Hemlock Street, Lowgap, wife of Claude Haynes, passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. She was born November 25, 1923, in Haywood County, to the late James Robert Davis and Grace Jeanette Foster Davis Foster. She was a retired paint supervisor for the Newport News Ship Building Drydock Company and was a member of the Mountain View Baptist Church. Surviving are husband, Claude Haynes; a daughter, Sandra H. Rhodes of Lowgap; three sons and daughters-in-law, Charles W. Aiken, Sr. and Mary Ann of Lowgap, Larry Moody and Barbara of Lowgap, and Danny Moody and Henrietta of Niagara Falls, NY; eleven grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; five sisters, Mattie Ogden of Waynesville, Sarah Taylor of Hampton, VA, Ada Wilson of Cashiers, Betty Pratt of Summer, TX, and Peggy Weeter of Amarillo, TX; four brothers, Gene Franklin of Kent, WA, Noah Foster of Cashiers, J.L. Foster of Cahiers, and Kenneth Foster of Cashiers; and nieces, Doris Ann Clark of Clyde and Nancy Cherry of Waynesville. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Haynes was preceded in death by a son, Michael Moody; two sisters, Shelby Emmizer and Evelyn Clark; and two brothers, Tommy Davis and Kenneth Davis. The funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, May 24, 2014, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Russell Parsons, the Rev. Euel Vernon, and the Rev. Ronnie Harris. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:30 PM until the time of the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mrs. Haynes' family to assist with the purchase of a headstone, c/o Sandra Rhodes, P.O. Box 102, Lowgap, NC 27024.
