Mrs. Mattie Lee Nowlin Tatum

Mrs. Mattie Lee Nowlin Tatum, age 93 of Patrick Springs, passed away Sunday, June 24, 2012 at the Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Stuart. She was born in Patrick County on October 13, 1918 to the late Samuel Thomas Nowlin, Sr. and Stella Sheffield Nowlin. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Tatum was preceded in death by her husband, James Arthur Tatum; two sons, Van Warren Tatum, Sr. and Cecil Wayne Tatum; one sister, Nancy France; and four brothers, Rev. James Nowlin, Samuel Nowlin, Jr., Walter Nowlin and Charles Nowlin. She was a lifelong member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, had retired from J.P. Stevens with 25 years of service, and was a very loving person who was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend.
Mrs. Tatum is survived by four sons, James "Jimmy" Tatum of Rural Hall, North Carolina, and Larry Darnell Tatum, Kenny Stanley Tatum and Ricky Sherwood Tatum, all of Patrick Springs; one daughter, Joyce Tatum Foddrell of Martinsville; fourteen grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Tatum will be held Thursday, June 28, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Rev. Robert Hairston and Rev. Benny Redd officiating. Burial will follow in the Nowlin Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 12:00 noon until time of the service at the funeral home, and at other times at the home.
