Mrs. Mayetta Forrest King Jones went to Heaven to serve her Lord face to face on January 31, 2015 after a lifetime of serving her family and community with the love that God cultivated in her heart. She was born on September 1, 1927 to the late Taylor T. King and Hattie Ogle King. Left to cherish her memories are her loving husband of 70 years, William “Frank” Jones and their four daughters and sons-in-law, Delores Jean and Richard Kinder, Darlene and Danny Vernon, Deborah and Steve McCreary, Donna and Shane Johnston and one son and daughter-in-law Darrell and Angela Jones; 12 grandchildren: Brad Hiatt and Melissa, Chad Vernon, Justin Vernon and Shanna Leamon, Andrea Osborne and Mark, Julie Payne and Ken, Daniel Jones and Michelle, Dustin Webb and Megan, Ethan McCreary and Chelsey, Jason McCreary and Renee, Justin McCreary and Roxanne, Jessica Cooke Bailey and Matt, Tyler Johnston; and 12 great grandchildren as well as one expectant; many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her siblings Gladys Hawks, Mozelle Strickland, Beulah King and Woltz “Doc” King and grandson Brian Ashley Hiatt. During her lifetime, Mrs. Jones touched the lives of many beyond her own family as an educator and in her service to her community. She influenced and encouraged countless while serving as a teacher for 30 years in the Carroll County school system and 5 years in the Surry County school system. Mrs. Jones even served as a homebound teacher and after retirement, continued to serve the education system through substitute teaching. Her love of education and desire assist others was evident as she served as a member of the Carroll County School Board, was a member on the Board of Directors for Rooftop of Virginia, she was on the Carroll County Electoral Board and freely gave her time as a volunteer for 20 years with the Webb Southern Carroll County Senior Center. Her faithfulness to her God and church is reflected in her 34 years of perfect attendance at Paul’s Creek Baptist Church in Cana. Mrs. Jones was devoted helping others and caring for her loving family. Funeral services will be held at Paul’s Creek Baptist Church on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Justin McCreary officiating with interment following at Rocky Ford Christian Church in Cana. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy on Friday, February 6, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 where the body will remain until the time to be taken to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the service. The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to all the caregivers during Mrs. Jones illness including Mountain Valley Hospice Care.
