Mrs. Melba Gray McCraw Speight Age 81 of Galax, VA. and formally of Mt. Airy went to be with her Lord and Savior Monday June 8, 2015 at the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem. Mrs. Speight was born February 23, 1934 in Surry County to the late Fern and Hazel Ashburn McCraw. Melba was a registered nurse and worked for Dr. Carlton Everhart until her retirement. Melba taught art "which she loved" after her retirement, was a member of the Eastern Star and was a member of Blue Ridge Chapel Church where she sang in the choir. Surviving is her husband Hugh Millard Speight of the home, one daughter Carolynn Speight Edwards of High Point, one son and daughter-in-law Paul and Esther Speight of Mebane, three grandchildren and spouses Andy Speight, Jamie and Paul Reinas and Daniel and Vicki Speight, nine great grandchildren Melanie, Blake, Kaitlynn, Wesley, Seth, Lilly, Codie, Colton and Alayna. Funeral services will be held Wednesday June 10, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Blue Ridge Chapel Church where her body will lie in state 1 hour before the service, with services conducted by Rev. Michael Shockley with burial to follow at Skyline Memory Gardens at 3:00 P.M. The family will receive friends Tuesday night 6 to8 P.M. at the Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy, NC. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the building fund of Blue Ridge Chapel Church, 1559 Max Lane, Galax, VA., 24333, or to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care 401 Technology Lane Suite 200 Mt. Airy, NC. 27030.
