Mrs. Mildred Simmons

Mrs. Mildred Simmons, 88 of Mt Airy went to be with the Lord on April 13, 2012 in Ft. Wayne, IN. She was born May 10, 1923 in The Hollow, VA to the late G.C. "Cleve" and Maude McMillian. Mrs. Simmons was a graduate of Martin Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. In 1948 she married Charles Aubrey Simmons, who predeceased her, and they were members of First Baptist Church of Mt. Airy. Mrs. Simmons never lost her love of nursing and her love of birds and flowers. She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother, whose emphasis on education inspired her family. She is survived by her children, Laura Simmons Mears and husband, Charles, White Bear Lake, MN, Denise Simmons, Giblin of Evanston, IL, Charles A. Simmons and wife, Georgetta of Ft. Wayne, IN and Cynthia Emert, of St. Augustine, Fl, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Her sisters are Ruby Wood, Bassett, VA. and Germaine Saunders, Danville, VA. Memorial services will be held 2:00 pm Friday, April 27, 2012 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Steve Ayers. Burial will follow in Oakdale cemetery. The family will receive friends 1:00 PM Friday until time of the service at Moody Funeral Home.
