Mrs. Nellie Ruth Turner Bowles

Mrs. Nellie Turner Bowles age 96, of Stuart, Virginia passed on Monday, September 16, 2014 at her home. She was born in Patrick County on September 6, 1918 to the late Grover Turner and Ada Foster Turner. In addition to her parents Mrs. Bowles was preceded in death by her husband, Earnest Sell Bowles; a son, Larry Roger Bowles; a daughter, Margie B. Witt; seven brothers, Smith, Aaron, Irvin, Jesse, Daniel, Herbert and David Turner and five sisters, Dessa Plaster, Nina Byrd and infant triplets. Mrs. Bowles had retired from Fieldcrest Mills. Nellie was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church for over fifty years.
Mrs. Bowles is survived by two daughters, Mamie B. Stone of Bassett and Judy Thomas of Stuart; three sons, Troy Bowles, Roy Bowles and Berkley Bowles all of Bassett, 13 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; sister, Mildred Stone of Bassett; two brothers, Frank A. Turner of Patrick Springs and Amos C. Turner of Patrick Springs and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 2:00pm at Pleasant View Baptist Church with Rev. Rick Anderson officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Bowles Family Cemetery on Halsey Farm Road. The family will receive friends one and a half hours prior to the service.
