Mrs. Opal Jones Hodgin

Mrs. Opal Jones Hodgin, "Nanny" age 97 of Mt. Airy, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, May 20, 2015. Mrs. Hodgin was born in Surry County on February 26, 1918 to James Ulis and Ada Key Jones. She was a loving mother, "Nanny" and great grandmother who will be dearly missed by all her family and friends. Mrs. Hodgin was a devoted member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Denaye Hodgin, Gary and Diane Hodgin and Tim and Robin Hodgin; her precious grandchildren, Tanner Hodgin and special friend Katey, Eddie Hodgin and wife Dacia, Andrew Hodgin and fiancé Amanda, Amanda Bernhardt and husband Jason and Chrissy Beasley and husband Brad; great grandchildren, Alyx Hodgin, Jackson Hodgin and Gracie Beasley; sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley Jones, Hazel J. Gammons, Audrey Needham and Shelvia J. and Dan Ettinger and brothers and a sister-in-law, Frank and Judy Jones and Bobby Jones. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hodgin was preceded in death by her husband, Robert M. "Bob" Hodgin, Jr., a sister, Wilma Scott and brothers, Claude Jones, Lloyd Jones and James "Bill" Jones. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, May 24, 2015 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. James Joseph; Rev. Dennis Barnette and Chaplain Kevin Wilson. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
