Mrs. Pauline Shelton Spence, age 85 of Stuart, passed away Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at her home. She was born in West Virginia on February 18, 1927 to the late Jack and Trinnie May Shelton. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Spence was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Elbert Spence, Sr. She retired as a licensed practical nurse for 35 years at Pioneer Community Hospital (formerly R.J. Reynolds Patrick County Memorial Hospital).
Mrs. Spence is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Jackie and Lynda Spence of Rocky Mount and Walter Spence, Jr. and Rebecca of Stuart; two daughters and sons-in-law, Pauletta and Nello Martin of Lawsonville, North Carolina and Stella and Wayne Perdue of Stuart; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Maggie Coiner of Charleston, South Carolina.
Funeral services for Mrs. Spence will be held Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at Fairview Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Ricky Brewer, Rev. Jim Churchwell and Rev. Allen Dawson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. in the Spence Family Cemetery on Carter's Mountain Road in Stuart. Moody Funeral Home in Stuart is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
