Mrs. Ruby Mae Corns Smith, age 93, of Lawsonville, North Carolina, passed away Friday, January 3, 2014 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on May 31, 1920 in Stokes County, North Carolina and was the daughter of the late Samuel Edward Corns and Lennis Hundley Corns. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, William Brockley Smith; one sister, Evelyn Biggs Clark; and eight brothers, Franklin, Junior, Johnson, Cecil, Moir, Major Corns and two infant brothers. She worked at Bassett Walker, Pannill Knitting and United Elastic until retirement. She loved to can vegetables from the garden, cook, quilt and garden. She was a member of Peters Creek Baptist Church.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Jaunita Smith of Mayodan, North Carolina; one daughter, Lillie Mae Smith Belton of Stuart; three grandchildren, Sherri Kallam and husband, Tracy, of Mayodan, North Carolina, Bryan Smith of Atlanta, Georgia, Allison Belton of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by special friends, Betty Wood of Lawsonville, Janet Nelson of Lawsonville and Mike Alley of Walnut Cove, North Carolina.
Funeral services for Mrs. Smith will be held Sunday, January 5, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Peters Creek Baptist Church with Pastor Terry Ragsdale officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in Peters Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. If desired, memorials may be made to Peters Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 6561 NC 8 Hwy.
