Mrs. Rumell Stanley Whitaker

Mrs. Rumell Stanley Whitaker, age 89, of Dobson, NC passed away on Saturday evening April 14, 2012 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. She was born in Surry County on September 27, 1922 to the late Ernest and Lessie Harris Stanley. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Troy Ellis Whitaker; one sister and eight brothers. She was a home maker, and after retiring from Washington Mill in Dobson she went to work at Eckerd's Drug in Mt. Airy, and then at Kerr Drug in Dobson. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church. Rumell loved going out to eat with her many friends and was seen daily at the Lantern Restaurant and Terry's Café. Surviving are her two daughters and sons-in-law Cynthia and Rik Maxey of Winston-Salem, NC, Martha and Randall Atkins of King, NC; by four grandchildren Sarah Maxey, Hannah Maxey, Katie Atkins, and Leslie Atkins; two sisters Freda White and Pauline Davis both of Dobson. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday April 18, 2012 in the Chapel of Moody-Davis Funeral Home, with burial in the Mount Hermon Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Jon White will conduct the services. The Family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson, NC.
