Mrs. Ruth Brown Dobbins

Mrs. Ruth Brown Dobbins, 91, of Dobson passed away Wednesday, December 03, 2014 at Pruitt Health Elkin. Ruth (affectionately known as "Nannie" after the birth of her granddaughter) is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Susan Dobbins Dockery and Todd Dockery, granddaughter Kennedy Dockery of the home, daughter-in-law and husband Sandra Huffman Dobbins Snow and Tim Snow of Elkin, NC, brother and sister-in-law R.L. Brown Jr. and Diane of North Myrtle Beach, SC, nieces Donna Brown of Raleigh, NC, Tonya Brown of Raleigh, NC, nephew and wife Grant and Kim Brown of North Myrtle Beach, SC, sister Lorene Brown White of Elkin, NC, niece Cynthia White Austin of Winston-Salem, NC, nephew and wife Al and Deb White of Concord, NC. She is also survived by nieces Clara Jane Dobbins Newton, of North Port, FL, Sarah Southard Benoist, of Bessemer City, NC, and Pam Dobbins Keesee of State Road, NC, nephews Steven and wife Sue Dobbins, of Hickory, NC, Grover D and Martha Dobbins of Marietta, GA and Dan and Angie Dobbins of Detroit, Michigan. She is also survived by her rescued canine companion, Winston. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents Raymond and Nola Brim Brown, husband James "Jim" Dobbins (deceased March 10, 2004) and her beloved son James "Jimmy" Dobbins (deceased October 17, 1995).
Ruth was retired from the Farm Service Agency, formerly known as the ASCS Office, in 1990 after 29 years of service. She was member of Union Cross Baptist Church, Elkin, NC. Many people were blessed by her love of cooking and her welcoming hospitality.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 06, 2014 at Union Cross Baptist Church at 12:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. till 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
We express our heartfelt appreciation to Jonesville Family Medical Center and Dr. Thomas Shelburne for the 27 years of dedicated health care given to Ruth.
To the Pruitt Health Elkin family, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the love and care Ruth received. Not only did you touch Ruth's life, you touched our lives also.
