Mrs. Ruth Novella Tilley Martin, 71, of Mt. Airy passed away Monday, October 6, 2014 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Surry County on August 25, 1943 to the late Roland Governor and Daisy Alice Whitaker Tilley. Mrs. Martin was retired from Spencer's Incorporated and was of the Baptist faith. She is survived by her husband, Larry Martin of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Allen Lindsay of Mt. Airy; two grandchildren, Jackson Lindsay of Mt. Airy, Stevan Lindsay of Roanoke, VA; sister, Peggy Hicks of Mt. Airy; brothers and sisters-in-law, Alvin Tilley, Jesse and Betty Tilley, Ruby Tilley all of Mt. Airy; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by a grandchild, Beth Lindsay; a sister, Myrtle Branch; brothers, Fred, Melvin, and Elmer Tilley; sisters-in-law, Dorothy, Hazel, and Bernice Tilley; brother-in-law, Jimmy Hicks. A memorial service will be held Thursday, October 9, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Billy Watson and Rev. Willie Martin officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday from 12:30 PM until time of the service at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy. The family would like to give a special thank you to Mt. Airy Dialysis Center, the staff of YVEDDI and their drivers, to Dr. Dodd, Dr. Dilley and to Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
