Mrs. Sarrah Elizabeth Southard Southard, age 92, of Dobson entered the portals of Heaven on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Surry County on June 10, 1922 to the late Henry Mart and Frances Catherine "Fannie" Carpenter. Mrs. Southard was a retired farmer and a proud member of Mitchell River Primitive Baptist Church. Since the age of 14, she helped her mother, who was the church clerk, with the record keeping and the church minutes and various other duties. She was instrumental in the rebuilding of the church after the original one was destroyed by arson. Those left to cherish her memory are her devoted children, Catherine Holder of Dobson and Ray and wife Sue Southard also of Dobson; her beloved grandchildren, Allen Holder, Roberta Holder, Rodney Holder, Lee Holder, Billy Southard, Mitchell Southard and Avery Beck; fifteen great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, her husband, McCree Southard and two brothers, Ray and Paul Southard preceded her in death. Her funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at Mitchell River Primitive Baptist Church by Elder Gary Lowe and Elder Avery Branch with burial to follow in Little Vine Primitive Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6 to 8 pm at Moody-Davis Funeral Home where she will remain until time to be carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Mitchell River Primitive Baptist Church, 6828 Haystack Road Dobson, NC 27017.
