Mrs. Shelby Jean Smith Hooker, age 77, of Claudville, VA passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Hooker was born on January 26, 1938 in Grayson County, VA to Bruce and Beaulah Combs Smith. Mrs. Hooker is survived by her loving husband of sixty years, Homer E. Hooker of the home, two daughters and a son-in-law, Sheila and David Stone of Sneads Ferry, NC, Michele Amidon of Charlotte, NC; one son, Chad Hooker of Claudville, VA; three grandchildren, Lucas Amidon of Charlotte, NC, Dustin Hooker and Tucker Hooker both of Claudville, VA; three sisters, Shirley Anderson of Claudville, VA, Betty Mae Christian of Rural Hall, NC and Lynda East of Cana, VA; one brother, Ronnie Smith of Fort Mill, SC; a sister-in-law, Patsy Smith of Laurel Fork, VA; and a special furry friend, Dooney. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Gray Smith. Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 PM with Rev. Rickey Spencer and Rev. Harry Sherill officiating. Burial will follow at Hatchers Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Flowers may be accepted or memorials made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 401 Technology Lane, Mt. Airy, NC 27030 or donations may be made to Hatchers Chapel Methodist Church, Attn: Shirley Anderson, 1567 Claudville Hwy., Claudville, VA, 24076.
