Mrs. Shelby N. Steele

Mrs. Shelby Lee Nelson Steele, age 77 of Mt. Airy, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2015 at the Woltz Hospice Home. Mrs. Steele was born in Surry County on February 9, 1938 to Luther and Ethel Payne Nelson. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother who not only raised her own children, but also loved and cared for many, many children she called her "very special children". Surviving are a daughter, Donna Creed and husband Dennis; sons, Mike Phillips and wife Gail and David Steele; a daughter-in-law, Michelle Steele; grandchildren, Nikki McDaniel, Jenna Steele, Josh Steele, Jake Steele, Jesse Phillips and Lee Phillips; seven great grandchildren; two of her "very special children, Courtney Reed and Brittany Reed and a very special friend, Sheila Reynolds. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Steele was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Ray Steele and brothers, Wade Nelson and Earl Nelson. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Joe Atkins. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday one hour prior to the service.
