Mrs. Shirley Jean Childress Butcher

Mrs. Shirley Childress Butcher, 75, widow of Mr. Larry Woodrow Butcher, of Mount Airy passed away on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Forsyth County on June 4, 1937 to the late Earlie Richard and Cleo Blakely Childress. Mrs. Butcher was retired short order cook having worked at Southside Café for many years. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving daughter, Fran "Punkin" Tilley of Winston-Salem; her beloved grandchildren, Adam Paul Tilley and wife Sophia of Clemmons, Misty Tilley Cammons and husband Chris of King and Shane Cody Tilley and wife Krystal of Winston - Salem; three great-grandchildren, Brycen Paul Tilley, Caleb and Luke Cammons; a sister, Lillian "Lynn" Choplin of Winston-Salem; a half-sister, Dorothy Sumners of Cornelius; several dear nieces and nephews; a special sister-in-law, Eunice Gilley of Mount Airy, special friends, the James Poole family and Nancy Phelps. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Butcher was preceded in death by two sisters, Frances "Sissy" Brown and Alphia Wilson and two brothers, James "Bud" Childress and Richard "Butch" Childress. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 15, 2012 in the chapel of Moody-Davis Funeral Home by Rev. Frank Shumaker, Eddie Phelps and Nathan McGee with burial to follow in Little Vine Primitive Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 7 to 9 pm. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Hospice and Palliative for their loving and compassionate care.
