Mrs. Verda Mae Tucker Dezern, age 92, of Pilot Mountain passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, August 11, 2017 with her daughter by her side. She was born in Surry County on September 20, 1924 to the late Willie Wilbur “Bill” and Sarah Alice Simpson Tucker. She and her husband were the co-owners and operators of Tucker and Dezern Grocery along with her brother and sister-in-law, Melvin and Betty Tucker for many years and a dedicated and faithful member of Pinnacle View Baptist Church as long as her health permitted. She is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Ralph Key of Pinnacle; three sisters, Betty Boyles, Jo Ann Nichols and Carolyn and husband Bill Tedder; two brothers, Calvin and Wilma Tucker, Rex and Barbara Tucker, Betty Tucker and Hazel Tucker. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dezern was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 49 years, Carl Dezern and three brothers, Clyde, Clevo and Melvin Tucker. A private graveside service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday August 12, 2017 at Pinnacle View Baptist Church cemetery by Ralph Key. Memorial contributions may be made to Pinnacle View Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Barry Hall, 463 Corner Road Pinnacle, NC 27043. Moody-Davis Funeral Home is serving the family.
