Virginia Bain Girouard, 93, died Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at her home in Critz, VA. Although born in the north on May 30, 1921, her people were from Port Gibson, Mississippi and Louisville, Kentucky and she loved the south. She was the daughter of William and Bonnie Hartley Bain. She was married to Col. Theodor J. Girouard, Jr, who passed away in 1993. They loved the military life of serving the country and travel. Virginia worked many jobs as a secretary including as a report writer for Army Intelligence, Berlin, Germany in 1946; secretary to the Guidance Director of Fairfax County School System-Virginia in 1957; secretary to the Post Commander, US Army, Panama in 1960; and in 1976 she was self-employed and her clients included the City of Alexandria, VA, where she covered public hearings. Later she held many temporary assignments in California including working for a Law Professor at Stanford University.
Virginia was the beloved mother of three devoted sons: Lt Col. Theodor J. Girouard, III, of Sierra Vista, Arizona; Terry Allen Girouard and his wife, Purnima, of Gillette., Wyoming: and Barry M. Girouard of the home. She was preceded in death by her older brother and his wife, Bill and Jane Bain. She is survived by her brother James A. Bain, but eleven days ago she lost her dear sister-in-law, Lorraine Bain, Virginia had seven grandchildren: Nicolette, Nick, Autumn, Ted, Stefanie, Dan and Ellen; and four great grandchildren: Lauren, Rowan, Aidan, and Isaac. Two of Virginia's ever-loyal friends are Mary Penn and Patricia Carlson.
The family is very grateful for the preliminary services provided by Moody Funeral Home of Stuart, VA. A memorial service is being planned for Fort Huachuca in Arizona where Virginia will be buried with her husband, Ted, who died there while they were on vacation.
