Mrs. Virginia "Ginny" Poirier Winters

Mrs. Virginia “Ginny” Poirier Winters, age 80 of Stuart, passed away Thursday, April 28, 2016 at Pioneer Community Hospital in Stuart. She was born in Chenango County, New York on June 19, 1935 to the late Reginald A. Poirier and Pearl Melissa Whitmarsh Cook. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Winters was preceded in death by her husband, Peter E. Winters; a brother, Reginald F. Poirier; two sisters, Regina Barnhart and Lorraine Naab; a stepmother, Grace Poirier. She was a member of Stuart United Methodist Church. She was a previous president of the American Legion Auxiliary of South Otselic, New York, was an EMT and fire person of South Otselic, New York where she was previously a secretary. She was also a member of the Eastern Star, Stuart Chapter. She was a bus driver for 16 years and had been a foster parent of 15 children.

She is survived by five children, Linda Moran of Stuart, Brandy Sue Blackburn of Lexington, North Carolina, John Palmer of El Paso, Texas, Burt Winters of Gloversville, New York and Brenda Palimtier of Norwich, New York; three step-children, Nancy Rowe of South Otselic, New York, Donald Peter Winters of Stuart and Glenn Winters of Gladstone, Oregon; fourteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Frederick Poirier of Harpursville, New York; several nieces and nephews; and a special dear friend, Elaine "Marie" Whitlow.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor Thomas Shepherd officiating. Burial will follow in Woolwine Cemetery.
