Mrs. Zeta Joan Canney Poteat, age 72 of Lowgap, passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mrs. Poteat was born in Elkart, IA on February 8, 1940 to Virgil Robert and Thelma Holsinger Canney. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Surviving is her devoted husband, Alvin Poteat of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and David Moser; Rita and Dale Hawks of Mt. Airy; Norma and John Mullins of Pilot Mountain; Dana Holt of Greenville, TX; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Angela Poteat of Greensboro; Tony and Kim Poteat of Sophia; eleven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; sisters, Edith Gibs, Sharon Baker, Bonnie Martin and Kathy Moser and a brother, Mike Canney. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Poteat was preceded in death by a son, Bobby Gumpert, a sister, Glenda Canney and brothers, Patrick Canney and Johnny Canney. Services will be private. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Mountain Valley Hospice, especially Bonnie Strum and Crystal Peel for the exceptional care and love given to Mrs. Poteat.
