Ms. Alice Elaine Allen Cheek age 76 of 1287 Newsome St., Mt. Airy, NC passed away Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at Central Continuing Care. She was born October 9, 1935 in Carroll County to the late Foy Dexter and Annie Mae Harrell Allen. She was retired from Kentucky Derby Hosiery and was of the Baptist faith. Surviving are five sons and two daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Deborah Gentry, David and Darlene Gentry, Andrew Lyle and Charlie Cheek all of Mt. Airy, Dennis Gentry, Oxford, four grandchildren, Shannon Gentry, Wilmington, Christine Gentry, Stacy Gentry, and Michelle Gentry and James McBride all of Mt. Airy, three great grandchildren, three sisters and brothers-in-law,. Juanita and Philip D'Amico, Libby and Buddy Culler, and Jessie Jones all of Mt. Airy and Bill Murray, Claytor Lake, VA, several nieces and nephews, several great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Ms. Cheek was preceded in death by three sisters, Linda Allen, Lizzie Murray and Ossie Jones and two brothers, Clinton Allen and Hosten Allen. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, June9, 2012 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Eugene Brinkley. Burial will follow in the Mt. Bethel Moravian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 pm Friday at Moody Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
