Ms. Betty Ruth Newman Jenkins

Ms. Betty Ruth Newman Jenkins, age 75 of Stuart, passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at her home. She was born in Patrick County on March 22, 1939 to the late Eugene and Violet Clifton Newman. In addition to her parents, Ms. Jenkins was preceded in death by two sisters, Moncella Gray and Violet Paunee Rorrer; and one brother, Cecil Newman. She was a member of Martinsville Primitive Baptist Church where she served as church secretary. She had worked as a registered nurse at Blue Ridge Nursing Center, and had sung with the Mountain Valley Hospice Choir.
Ms. Jenkins is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Susan Goard of Danville; two daughters and a son-in-law, Teresa and Cecil Barker of Ridgeway and Betty Corns of Stuart; three grandchildren, Candice Fulcher, Julie Strickland and Kyle Puckett; three great-grandchildren, Bryson Fulcher, Lauren Fulcher and Natalie Strickland; three sisters, Wanetta Doss of Stuart, Nagatha Wirt of Christiansburg and Evelena Dalton of Meadows of Dan; and three brothers, Garvin Newman of Orange City, Florida, Aubrey Newman of Daleville and Elroy Newman of Lynchburg.
Funeral services for Ms. Jenkins will be held Friday, March 28, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Elder Thomas Radford and Brother Elroy Newman officiating. Burial will follow in the Lewis Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.
