Ms. Betty Wood Whitaker

Mrs. Betty Wood Whitaker, 81, of Dobson passed away on Monday, December 16, 2013 at Village Care of King. She was born in Surry County on September 28, 1932 to the late Esker and Ethel Rumley Wood. Mrs. Whitaker was employed by Washington Mills and later, retired from Sara Lee Corporation and was a faithful member of Rockford Baptist Church as long as her health permitted. Survivors include her loving daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Donald Joyner of Dobson; and her beloved grandchildren, Whitney Joyner and Cassidy Joyner; a niece, Karen Wood Draughon; nephew, William Riley Wood, Jr.and a grand niece Courtney Wood; grand nephew Zack Draughon; special friends, Sharon Elmore and Louise Simpson. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Whitaker was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Gay Whitaker and two brothers, Riley Wood and Robert Wood; and a nephew Darren Wood; nephew Darren Wood. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Friday December 20, 2013 at Rockford Baptist Church by the Rev. Mitchell Robertson and the Rev. Lanny Atkins with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 pm on Thursday at Moody-Davis Funeral Home where her body will remain until time to be carried to the church to lie-in-state thirty minutes.
