Nancy Ann Everidge Banner

Mrs. Nancy Ann Everidge Banner, 72, of Winston-Salem, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, August 20, 2014. Born June 9, 1942, in Surry County, Nancy was graduated from Jonesville High School in 1960 and attended Appalachian State Teachers College.

She is predeceased by her parents, C. McNeer Everidge and Margaret Ferguson Everidge. Survivors include her devoted husband and best friend of 51 years, Reginald L. Banner; a daughter, Mary-Margaret Gressette (Tatum); two sons, James Everidge Banner (Claudia) and Joe Daye Banner; five grandchildren, Charlotte Vogel, Walker Vogel, Blake Banner, Barrett Banner, and Bradshaw Banner; a sister, Carolyn Everidge Tilley (Barry); and a brother, McDonald Ferguson Everidge (Shelvia). Special friends include Ernie Randleman, as well as Mae and Lee Daniels and their children Jai and Philip.

Nancy lived in Mount Airy for 34 years, where she raised her family and created many lasting friendships. She could be found attending ballgames, recitals, and school events, serving as a Cub Scout Den Leader, worshipping at Central United Methodist Church, organizing neighborhood lemonade and cupcake parties on the last day of school, while selflessly supporting and enriching the lives of her children and husband, as evidenced by the love and laughter that surrounded the dinner table each and every night.

As proud Blue Jays from Jonesville High, she and Reg enjoyed planning and hosting several reunions and holiday events for their classmates. For years, she and her beloved sister, Carolyn, eagerly embraced their self-appointed roles of event planners and morale boosters at their mother's nursing home, much to the delight of over a dozen of the residents who were "adopted" by Nancy and Carolyn.

After moving to Winston-Salem, Nancy joined Ardmore Baptist Church, where she and her husband were blessed to join a Sunday school class that became an uplifting source of sustained support and love during her recent illness. She and Reg enjoyed planning and hosting fellowship events for their Sunday school class, including Christmas, Valentine, and Independence Day celebrations full of fun and laughter.

First and foremost, Nancy adored her family - spending time with her children and grandchildren warmed her heart. At home she could be found planning crafts and games for her admiring grandchildren, who all knew that a weekend at Camp Nana's meant being surrounded by love, laughter, sleeping in late, and even the opportunity to eat ice cream and doughnuts for breakfast, for the one word never uttered in Nana's house was "No."

She was steadfast in the support of her husband and children, and was the quiet leader of her family. Her example of strength, devotion, and patience is now flowing through the generations of her grateful children and grandchildren. If the success of a person is measured by the love of her family and friends, Nancy was blessed with success beyond measure.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 24, 2014, at Ardmore Baptist Church, 501 Miller Street, Winston-Salem, by Dr. Don Gordon. The family will receive friends at the church after the service. A private burial will follow at a later date at Oakdale Cemetery in Mount Airy. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Central United Methodist Church, 1909 North Main Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030; or Ardmore Baptist Church, 501 Miller Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
