Mrs. Nancy Greenwood Rakes, age 78 of Stuart, Virginia, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2026, in the New River Valley Medical Center. She was born in Henry County, Virginia, on January 16, 1948, to the late James Irvin Greenwood and Ina Cruise Greenwood. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Woodrow Rakes. Nancy was a member of Wayside Community Church and loved her church family dearly. She also enjoyed flowers and shopping. She was a loving wife, devoted daughter, caring sister, adoring aunt, and faithful friend.

Left to cherish the memories of Nancy Rakes are her three sisters, Cathy Light (Leon), Judy Holt (Lewis), and Patrica Jones; one brother, Henry Greenwood (Lisa); one sister-in-law, Dixie Joyce; several nieces and nephews; and one special niece, Kathy Kisamore (Roy).

The funeral for Mrs. Rakes will be held on Friday, April 24, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastors Teddy Hiatt and Michael Smith. Burial will immediately follow in Wayside Community Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home on Friday afternoon.
