Nancy C. Surratt

Mrs. Nancy Carolyn Cecil Surratt, 81 of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully on Saturday May 10, 2025, at RidgeCrest Retirement and Assisted Living surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 16, 1943, in Grayson County to the late Garnett Jefferson Cecil and Nellie Lee Allred Cecil. She was longtime member of Fancy Gap Baptist Church. She worked at Perry Manufacturing in Mount Airy and then worked in the insurance business with Southwestern Associates while living in Blacksburg and Bassett, Virginia. Mrs. Surratt loved her children and grandchildren dearly and enjoyed spending time with them. She had many special friends at RidgeCrest. Mrs. Surratt is survived by her four daughters, Jenua “Gina” and Marty Nester, Julia Johnson, Melissa and Doug Carter, and Tracy Webster; four grandchildren, Candice Combs, Maggie and Josh Miller, Ethen Carter, and Jesse Nester; sisters, Mattie Sue and Neil Easter, and Teena and Calvin Moxley; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Surratt was preceded in death by her first husband, Hayzen Richard Surratt; second husband, Lester Lee “Howard” Surratt, Jr; sister, Reitha Kaye Cecil Ramey; and by her three brothers, Billy Ray Cecil, Bobby Jefferson Cecil, and Garnett Jefferson “Jay” Cecil, Jr. Funeral services will be held on Thursday May 15, 2025, at 1:00pm in the Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy with Pastor Dwight Sechrist and Pastor Scott Coleson officiating. The burial will follow the service in the Surratt Family Cemetery. the family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home on Thursday from 11:00am – 1:00pm and at other times at 149 Greystone Lane, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The Surratt family would like to thank RidgeCrest Retirement and Mountain Valley Hospice for all of the love, care, and support given to Mrs. Surratt and the family during her illness.
