Nancy Emily Turner Shively

Mrs. Nancy Emily Turner Shively, age 86, of Ferrum, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at her home. She was born on December 5, 1938, to the late Homer Stephen Turner and Lillian Mize Turner. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband (father of her children), Claude Herman Handy; her husband, David Henderson Shively, Sr.; two sisters, Shirley Turner Moore and Marie Foster; four brothers, Oran Akers “Bob” Turner, Walter Turner, Cecil “Mop” Turner, and Clyde Roosevelt Turner; one half-sister, Catherine “Cassie” Seagraves; two half-brothers, Gene Turner and Irvin Turner; one stepson; and two step grandchildren. She was a member of the Elamsville Primitive Baptist Church. Nancy will be remembered as a wonderful, loving mother, grandmother, wife, sister, aunt, and friend. She loved her family dearly and treasured spending time with them.

Nancy is survived by two daughters; Deena Whitlow (Bill) of Henry, VA and Renee Fulcher (Jeff) of Ferrum, VA ; a son, Ricky Handy of Stuart, VA; granddaughters, Shannon Gillian (Christian), Tennille Fizzano (Matt) and Nicole Whitlow; great-granddaughters, Carlena Fizzano and Bella Fizzano; step-daughters, Sherry Leigh Fulton, Nancy Jefferson (Ron), and Elizabeth Shively (Darryl); a step-son, David Shivley, Jr.; 6 step grandchildren; one brother, Curtis Turner; several nieces and nephews; and special caregivers, Louise Webb, Pat Hall, Brandi Mullins, Lori Beth Watkins, Bonnie Gusler, Peggy Hale, Marily Cassidy, Jamie Elgin, and Mountain Valley Hospice.

A funeral service for Mrs. Shively will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Zach Byrd and Elder David Minter officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday morning.
