Naomi "Nanny" Ruth Brooks Hawks

Mrs. Naomi "Nanny" Ruth Brooks Hawks, 88, of Lowgap passed away Friday, April 18, 2014 at Bermuda Commons Nursing and Rehab in Advance where she had lived for the past two years. She was born in Surry County on January 23, 1926 to the late William Calvin and Dora Bolt Brooks. Mrs. Hawks was retired from Bassett Furniture Company and was a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Louise Hodges Jenkins of Advance; six grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; a very special friend, Nancy Golding of Mt. Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hawks was preceded in death by her husband, Raleigh Thomas Hawks; a daughter, Helen Johnson; two sons, Richard Hawks, and Ray Hawks; two grandchildren, Bobby Randal "Randy" Hodges and Michael "Mike" Thomas Hawks; five sisters, Ola Hill, Mary Lawson, Mae Jones, Ellen Wimbley and Ima Jane Wimbley; a brother, Howard Brooks. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Mount Vernon Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Spurlin officiating. Burial will follow in Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 12:00 noon until the time for the service at Mount Vernon Baptist Church. The family would like to give their deep appreciation to the staff of Bermuda Commons and the staff of Liberty Hospice, Shannon, Sarah, Megan and Cheryl for all the love and care given to Nanny.
