Nellie Irene Puckett Easter

Mrs. Nellie Irene Puckett Easter, 92, of 211 Hawks Drive, Cana, VA, passed away early Tuesday morning, February 18, 2014, at Golden Living Center-Blue Ridge in Galax, VA. Mrs. Easter was born April 4, 1921, in West Virginia, the daughter of the late Everett G. "E.G." and Cora Bowman Puckett. Nellie worked as a cafeteria worker at Saint Paul Elementary School for many years and later retired from Spencer's Inc. She was a member of Flat Ridge Baptist Church. She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Douglas Easter of Dobson and Franklin and Emily Easter of Ararat, VA; a granddaughter and her husband, Amy Marie and Michael Edwards of Mount Airy; two great-grandchildren, Cheyenne Edwards and Dakota Edwards, both of Mount Airy; four sisters and a brother-in-law, Eunice P. Puckett of West End, Inez Puckett Hall of Biscoe, Lucille Puckett Britt of Star, and Louisa P. and Reid Freeman of Eagle Springs; three brothers and a sister-in-law, William McKinley Puckett of Troy, James Oliver Puckett of Hamlet, and Sammy and Shirley Puckett of Biscoe; a foster brother, James Quesinberry of Mount Airy; several nieces and nephews; and a special caregiver, Regina Waddell of Cana, VA. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Easter was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Samuel Easter; a daughter, Margaret Easter; a daughter-in-law, Barbara "Bobbie" Honeycutt Easter; three sisters, Mabel Puckett Gibson, Valeria Puckett Griffin, and Allie Puckett Smith; and three brothers, Everett Winfred Puckett, Robert Henry Puckett, and Charlie Monroe Puckett. The funeral service will be held Friday, February 21, 2014, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Russell Vass officiating. Burial will follow at Flat Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 12:30 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Moody Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1288, Mount Airy, NC 27030, to assist the family with the funeral expenses.
